Chicago Mass Choir Named Traditional Choir of the Year

Joshua’s Troop Honored WithYouth Project of the Year Award
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (April 7, 2017) — New Haven Records’ artists took home two accolades at the 32nd Annual Stellar Awards, held March 25 in Las Vegas.
The Chicago Mass Choir was named Traditional Choir of the Year, and Joshua’s Troop won Youth Project of the Year for “It’s My Time.” Both groups are first
time Stellar Award winners. This year’s awards show will premiere on TV One April 9 at 6:00 p.m. EST/5:00 Central with encore airings at 8:00 p.m. EST/7:00
Central and 11:00 p.m. EST/10:00 p.m. Central time.

With three total nominations, the Chicago Mass Choir also performed at this year’s Stellar Awards. The award-winning group closed the show collaborating with
Donnie McClurkin on “I Need You” before launching into their popular single, “Thank You, Thank You, Jesus.”

Chicago-based gospel youth choir Joshua’s Troop blends contemporary urban R&B and soul with traditional gospel. Founded by Pastor Clay Evans and his successor at
Fellowship Methodist Baptist Church of Chicago, Pastor Charles Jenkins, the choir’s aim has always been to create music that appeals to young, teenaged churchgoers.
The group released its self-titled debut in 2000. In 2007, the choir came under the direction of brothers Percy and Jeral Gray. Joshua’s Troop released its latest single,
“It’s My Time,” in 2016.
